How to colour over pre-existing colour
Previously processed hair doesn't need a full processing time. Since it has already been processed, it just needs a quick refresh.
Pro Colour Tips
-
Permanent Colour
The effects of Permanent hair colour last forever – as it permanently alters the natural hair. And while the colour may fade, the effects will still be there and will require re-coloring to return to your natural shade (or patience as your hair grows out).

Semi & Demi Permanent Colour
For more subtle colour that will not lift any of your natural hair colour, try Demi or Semi-Permanent dye. Demi-Permanent colour is a bit stronger, typically lasting 20 to 28 shampoos. Semi-Permanent hair colour can last from 4 to 15 shampoos, depending upon the viscosity of the hair. Another semi-permanent option is hair gloss which enhances colour and shine.

Get the Colour Just Right with Toners
It's best to stay within two shade levels of your natural hair colour. Also choose shades that are on a cooler base — such as ash and violet tones. That will help reduce the brassiness. PRO TIP: If you're already brassy, then tone away! It's best to use a toner to control the warmth.

How to get better colour coverage
Thanks to these at-home hair colour tricks, you can Unleash Your PROtential™ whenever and wherever you choose. PRO TIP: Invite a friend to be your helper during the colour process. It's easier when there are two of you — and more fun.
-
Buy Two Boxes
If your hair is past your shoulders or shoulder length and extremely coarse, use two boxes of the same shade to ensure full coverage.
-
Consider Your Texture
If your hair is frizzy or curly, pick a colour that's warm (like golden, copper or bronze), but a little lighter than your natural hair colour. And if your hair is fine and straight, choose cooler shades (like champagne or beige) that are slightly darker than your natural hair colour.
-
Touch Up Your Roots
And only your roots. To avoid accidentally dyeing your more porous ends, apply conditioner to your ends right before you rinse out the colour at the top of your head.
-
Section, Section, Section
To avoid patchiness, create a middle part that runs to the back of your head and split the hair into four sections. That would be two in front of your ears and two in back. And always apply the dye from back to front.
-
Add Shampoo to Your Colour
If your ends are very dry — and you're dyeing your entire head — don't put dye on your ends. Instead, three minutes before you rinse, add two squeezes of shampoo into the leftover dye and apply.
-
Condition, Condition, Condition
If you skip the conditioner step, it leaves the cuticle open, and the colour keeps working. So don't throw away the conditioner in the kit— use it! But if you do misplace it, then make sure to use a deep conditioner in the shower after you rinse out the dye.
